The Packers Preseason Hopes Take a Hit as Green Bay Falls to Denver
The Green Bay Packers, just one preseason game away from the regular season, suffered a disappointing loss to the Denver Broncos in their second preseason game of the season. The Packers’ hopes of building momentum going into the new season took a hit as they lost 27-2, failing to impress on both offense and defense.
Despite the loss, head coach Matt LaFleur remains optimistic, calling for his players to show ‘more fight’ after the game. ‘I was hoping our guys would come out with more strain, effort, grit,’ LaFleur said. ‘It’s a good lesson for our guys that if you don’t put your best foot forward each and every time, these things happen to you.’
The Packers struggled on offense, mustering only 168 yards. Backup quarterbacks Sean Clifford and Michael Pratt failed to impress, with Clifford completing 6/10 passes for 43 yards and an interception, and Pratt finishing 10/16 for 52 yards.
‘I think the production kind of speaks for it,’ LaFleur said of the performance by his quarterbacks. ‘It’s on everybody.’
The only bright spot for the Packers came from defensive end Zach Morton, who scored the team’s only two points with a safety in the third quarter. Morton, an undrafted free agent, knows the importance of preseason games and treated the game like his ‘Super Bowl.’
The Packers now have a short week ahead of them, with a joint practice with the Ravens on Thursday before their final preseason game on Saturday. With the regular season just around the corner, the Packers need to regroup and refocus if they want to make a strong start.
